At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends. . .until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity.

Nick quickly learns that the human world is only a veil for a much larger and more dangerous one: a world where the captain of the football team is a werewolf and the girl he has a crush on goes out at night to stake the undead.

But before he can even learn the rules of this new world, his fellow students are turning into flesh eating zombies. And he’s next on the menu.

As if starting high school isn’t hard enough. . .now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended. How in the world is he supposed to do that?

*This is only a mini review, I will write up a full one of the series after reading the 6th book.

So happy I read this book and grateful it got me out of my reading slump. I stayed up till 5 reading this so what does that say about this book? A lot, I think.

The beginning was slow but when the interesting parts came they were like BAM! To be honest, I expected you know, more, few chapters in but I am so glad I kept reading because like I said, the second half, BAM. (FYI, there’s no way

The characters in this book all have distinctive traits and are all very interesting. While the spotlight is on Nick and him fighting his demons, everyone has a part to play and their moment to shine (some in less complimenting ways than others), so you will never feel like you’re getting too much Nick. Trust me when I say there are lots of other characters in this book and you will want to get to know them better. Well me, I felt nostalgic, this book had me longing to reread the Dark-Hunter series.

The plot, well that’s a teensy bit hard to explain without spoiling anything. Just look out for Kyrian entering the book ’cause that’s where the plot really starts.

Definitely recommend it for readers who like their characters sassy and witty, humor on almost every page and of course, fans of Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series. However, if you do NOT appreciate humor- sometimes dry- at inappropriate times and like your books straightforward and simple, I’m not sure this is the book for you. Things can get a little complex and you’ll be introduced to lots of characters from the Dark-Hunter series (which I love), but don’t let that scare you off of this amazing adventure.

Note: Remember Nick is only fourteen in this book, so cut him some slack. Also, there’s barely any romance, just your good old fashioned crush.

Oh and no, you do not have to read the Dark-Hunter series to understand this book, but I can’t guarantee that you won’t want to. 😉

I am off to read the sequel, Invincible. Bye!

I’m sorry if that wasn’t very informative, I’m hoping it was informative enough for you to consider reading the book. Book 5? That’s amazing!
I put Invincible on hold to read Red Queen as part of the read-along. I’ll be getting back to Invincible soon after finishing a few ARCs, so you can join me and re-read them whenever you want. Do you read her Dark-Hunter series?
Also, I notice we have lots of read books in common. If I’m not mistaken you enjoyed Abby and the Cute One by Erin Butler?
What’s your Goodreads name? I’ll add you. 🙂
